Proclamation by Michael Joy
Proclamation, an original composition by PHE’s former Composer-in-Residence, Michael Joy, was written as a signature piece for the Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble.
Proclamation begins majestically with an antiphonal opening. The articulation then changes to include malletted bass bells, enhancing the continuing antiphonal experience. A mixed meter of 6/8 and 3/4 is carried throughout, adding interest. The piece ends with a recapitulation of the opening theme.
This composition, which is available in 6- or 7-octave versions, is now offered for sale through the generous donation of Michael Joy. Proceeds from the sale of this composition will be used for the continued support of the Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble.
